Before I used to think that happiness was something that I could only find outside of myself. I would say: “I will be happy once I have accomplished this or that”, but once I had achieved it I would just move on to the next thing. That was until I learned that everything that I need to be happy already existed within me, that realization made me see life and everything else in a whole new way.
This means that You have all that you need within yourself to live a happy life.
Do you find yourself thinking that you will be happy once you achieve______(fill in the blank)?
Well just know that this is not the key to happiness.
In this post, I will be sharing 3 tips that you can do to live a happy life. Let’s begin! 🙂
1. ENJOY EVERY MOMENT
Normally I would say to be present and live mindfully and enjoy every moment. For today it’s a little different because we all have certain things in life that we don’t quite enjoy doing, like washing clothes, doing chores, going to work, etc. But what has helped me is to realize that all these things are part of life, we just have to learn how to make these unenjoyable tasks more fun and enjoyable.
For example:
What I do to make cleaning more enjoyable is to put on some uplifting music, burn some candles, put my workout clothes on and make myself a yummy drink! 😉
The music helps me feel motivated; the candles make my home smell wonderful, the workout clothes make me feel comfortable and more awake than if I were to just wear my comfy PJS 🙂 and the drink is my treat.
This helps doing chores a lot more enjoyable for me than if I were to just jump right into cleaning.
The trick is to learn to combine things that you enjoy while doing tasks that you don’t like as much.
Although I love cleaning, something that I don’t like is folding the laundry. So what I do to make that time more enjoyable is to listen to my favorite podcasts, or watch a video. This helps the time fly by and before I know it I finished folding the large pile of clothes I had while doing something I enjoy.
We all have to do things that we don’t enjoy in life but we can learn to make it more fun. If we are going to continue doing these tasks for the rest of our lives, might as well learn to make them more enjoyable!
And this is how I have come to enjoy every moment 🙂
2. SCHEDULE IN LEISURE TIME
We are all so busy, and we usually schedule in all our “to do’s” but we sometimes forget to schedule in some downtime. It is good to have balance in your life and not get burnt out by all your daily tasks.
Constantly being on the go will not make you happy.
Take a moment and ask yourself: What do I and my body need at this moment?
It’s important to ask yourself this question every day.
Sometimes you might need to take a walk, get lost reading your favorite book, spend time with family, go out in nature, etc.
You yourself know what you and your body need mentally and physically, so make sure to schedule in some time for that every day.
3.EXPRESS GRATITUDE
Lastly but definitely not the least is to express gratitude. Gratitude alone can make you feel like the happiest person in the world. It not only makes you feel happier but improves your health and it has so many amazing benefits.
I have talked about gratitude a lot here on my blog but here are some ways you can practice gratitude:
- Keep a gratitude journal and write in it every day
- Pray and express your appreciation for all that you have with all your heart
- Show appreciation to the people in your life that you love
- Express gratitude for all that you have achieved and be proud of yourself
- Be grateful for your past experiences whether good or bad. They all taught you valuable lessons.
There is ALWAYS something to be grateful for. Overwhelm yourself with gratitude and trust me it will be the best feeling in the world. Practicing gratitude every day has changed my whole life, and I am positive it can change yours too!
If you only do this tip out of the three tips that I gave today in this post. It will be so worth it!
All you have to do is look within and see you are enough as you are right now, what you already have in your life is more than enough for you to be happy right now.
Really enjoyed this post. I believe you truly have something here!!!
Thank you! I am so glad to know you enjoyed this post 🙂

Aw thanks, Elizabeth! 🙂
Love love love this. I also read recently about walking yourself through the five sense in any given moment – what do you see/hear/touch/taste/smell. It helps you appreciate the present more (even if you’re doing something seemingly mundane) instead of always looking forward to that “something” in the future that will make you happy. 🙂

What a great read!!
Thank you, Megan! 🙂
Love this! So many people believe that happiness relies on something or another. It’s up to each of us to be happy, no matter the current situation.
Yes exactly! Thanks so much for your comment 🙂
positive! I needed that actually
Thank you!! I am so glad it helped you out 🙂
Have a great day!
I have been really working on gratitude! I think it’s so important. I definitely notice a huge difference in my attitude when I do!
Definitely, it has changed me and my life for the better!
Thank you for sharing Kayla 🙂
Leisure time is so important and I don’t think we really value it enough. Scheduling it in is a great idea.
Yes I always have to schedule in leisure time, if not time will just pass by and realize I had no time for relaxing 🙂
Have a lovely day, Kate!
This is a great post and so true! I attended a lecture a few years back that specifically revolved around your first point, and it made such a huge difference in my life! Now when I do housework its on days that I’m home alone – I crank the tunes and literally dance and sing my way through otherwise boring chores. It makes it SO much more fun!
That is so awesome Britt! I agree that music does make chores more fun! 🙂
Thank you for your comment. I hope you have a beautiful day 🙂
Great thoughts here! I think expressing gratitude is something we all need to do a little more of.
