Recently I have changed my morning routine, and it has immensely helped be more productive during that day and feel better overall. I have never been an early bird, and I am still working on it. But now that I have created a morning routine that I truly love and works for me, it now makes me excited to get up in the morning! 🙂
Once you read this post, I urge you to create your own morning routine that will work for you. It’s okay to not do all of these ways that I mention in this post, even just doing one of these for 10 minutes a day will help you perform much better throughout the day and not feel as tired. You will notice so many benefits when you take time out of your morning for yourself. You will be in a better mood and feel much happier.

1. Gratitude
I know not all of you will have time to sit down and write in your journal all you are grateful for in the morning. But even taking 5 minutes writing in your journal to express what you are thankful for will change your whole mindset for the day. Instead of thinking of all that you need to get done that day, it brings you back to the present moment feeling grateful for all that you currently have.
This can be hard to do when you are going through a hard time in your life, but even when you are going through a difficult time, there is always something to be grateful for. Like I always say, we all have far greater blessings than we have troubles.
If you find it hard to start a gratitude practice, what can help you is The 5 Minute Gratitude Journal.
“The Five Minute Journal is simple, quick, and effective. Whatever your excuse for not keeping a journal is, this journal will eliminate them.” You can read more about the Journal here.
2. Sit In Silence & Deep Breathe
I absolutely love this one because every time I practice this relaxation technique I feel so calm and energized for the day. I have noticed I am also a lot more patient when I take the time to sit in silence and deep breathe. Sometimes I do this for 5-15 minutes or longer. Depending on what my body needs for that day. I truly feel that my body is healing during this process.
During the day we are usually always in a hurry, and we are shallow breathing which doesn’t give enough oxygen to our brain or body.
Other benefits of deep breathing are:
- Calms your mind and body
- Releases toxins from your body
- Provides you with mental clarity
- Improves your immune system
- Gives you energy
- Relieves anxiety
- Much more!
3. Use Positive Affirmations To Improve Your Morning Routine
I had written about positive affirmations in this post. Positive affirmations is simply having positive self-talk. The majority of the time we are having negative thoughts about ourselves throughout the day. Which doesn’t make us feel good and doesn’t help us in achieving what we want in life.
By practicing positive affirmations daily, you will rewire your brain to start thinking more positively about yourself and your life. Which in turn will change your whole life.
If you find being positive is something you struggle with, make sure to check out this post on 9 Positive Thinking Tips. It has very informative and helpful information about how you can be more positive and all the benefits of the power of positive thinking.
4. Get Moving
I notice an increase in my energy when I do stretches or go out for a walk in the morning. The point is to get moving every morning, whether that is by taking a short walk, going for a run, doing stretches, Pilates, or doing a short workout. Whatever you prefer and makes you feel good.
I think it’s great to get your workout done in the morning that way during that day you don’t have to worry about it anymore and you can focus on the rest of your tasks.
5. Drink Water
This is very simple yet extremely important. A reason why you might feel tired after sleeping plenty of hours is because your body was dehydrated throughout the night. By drinking fresh water in the morning, you will hydrate your body, and you will feel re-energized. By doing so, you also flush out toxins, and you jump-start your metabolism for the day! 😉
I always drink fresh water before eating breakfast, and it helps me to feel more awake and ready to start my day.
Conclusion
These are just some ways that you can start your morning. These are ways that have helped me and go well for me and my life. Now you can go and create your own morning routine that feels good to you. Remember that it’s okay if you don’t have time to do all the ways I mentioned, you can start incorporating one way at a time and see which one works best for you.
I love this list, especially the positive affirmation part. It’s amazing how something so small like that can have such a great effect on your day!

I love meditating in the morning. It’s my me time where I can sit and breath and focus on clearing my mind and even if you only have 5 minutes it can make a huge impact on your entire day!

That’s amazing Emily, so happy you found something that works for you! 🙂

I too love this list, especially number 2. Instead of jumping out of the bed, or grabbing my phone, I sit still and breathe. Just sitting quietly for a few minutes, before starting the day, allows me to focus my intentions and gather my energy for the day. When I accidentally forget to do this, I can always tell because my mind feels scattered.
Yes I notice a huge difference if I don’t take time out of my morning to just sit still and breathe for a few minutes. I am not as patient during the day 🙂
Thanks for commenting, Kemya!

Positivity and gratitude are literally life changing. I also incorporated a workout routine into my life 4 months ago and notice a big difference in the way I feel. Still working on time management and getting up early!
That is awesome, Chel! Thank you for sharing this with us 🙂
I hope you have a beautiful day!

Great advice! I always drink a glass of water when I get up and have started going for a walk in the morning before breakfast. The rest I do during the day but will try to incorporate into my morning routine. Thanks!
having affirmations has been so life-changing for me. We have the power to set the intention of our day and that’s pretty amazing
Great advice! It’s amazing how something like drinking water right when you wake up can have a impact to your day…and health!
Such simple things but will make a huge difference. I need to allow myself time to sit in silence. I always pray which is great but silence is good too.
Awesome! I always drink water as soon as I wake up. I have water sitting on my bedside table. But I need to work on positive affirmations in the morning. They usually come later on, but the sooner the better!
I have spent the last few years with my little one as my alarm clock because she nurses still. I am trying to get in the habit of waking before she does. This is a great list to get started
ive noticed i need to decompress more in the morning than i do at night. which i find strange, but hey that’s me lol i am going to definitely put your tips into affect
I’ve been working on my morning routine. Right now I’m focusing on getting at least 8 oz of water before leaving the house.
This is exactly my morning routine and I love it! Gratitude and positive affirmations have been life changing for me. They rise your positive vibrations and just put you in a good state of mind. Great Post 🙂
I LOVE this list! And yes, I really need to drink more water. I need to also work on more positive affirmations for myself as I get prone to self-hatred sometimes.
I love these tips! I cannot wait to try them out
This is a great way to start the day! I feel as though I need to make changes in my morning routine!

I’ve been trying to be a morning person for a while now and I suck at it! I read Miracle Morning and it offers similar tips, because they work! I mean, when I do manage to drag myself out of bed earlier than needed, these work to make a great day!
Wow, I love this post! I do a lot of the things you mentioned, like positive affirmations and taking the time to be grateful. It’s hard for me to nail down a morning routine because I usually wake up so unmotivated. But they’re things that I try to practice throughout the day. I just published a post this morning that mentions a couple of these things as well! I’m not a big fan of spammy self promotion, but if you’re interested I’ll send you the link!
Love this sharing to my Facebook Page!
Great list. It seems so obvious, but so many of us forget to do it.
Ive recently downloaded a meditation app that helps me start my day in a positive light. I think positive affirmation makes or breaks a day. This is great!
Awesome post. Really valuable. We have affirmations posted on our wall in every room. Helps before leaving the house. Need to work on drinking more water in the morning. Thanks again for sharing!:)
I love your blog posts, they’re always so timely for me. I’m working on adding deep breathing into my morning routine. Daily routine actually; my breathing is not perfect, and it’s been showing up in my stress levels!
These tips are great! I am trying the most to focus on drinking water. Thanks for sharing!
You’re so right about drinking water in the morning. I add lemon juice to it which makes me feel even better throughout the day.
I also want to sign up to the gym that’s right across the street from me so I could do a short workout before work. I just really need to do it.
