How To Stay Motivated And Keep Chasing Your Dreams

How To Stay Motived and Keep Chasing Your Dreams

Most of us start out chasing our dreams with great ambitions and many lofty plans! Soon that wanes, and we lose our momentum. When we lose our motivation, the rest of it usually falls apart as well. Why not try to nip it in the bud from the very beginning by following these simple, but powerful, steps:

Remember why you started to chase your dream in the first place:

Think about the reasons why it was so important to you when you had just begun to chase your dreams. Was it to improve your quality of life, to go after goals or dreams that you’ve had for a long time, or to fulfill some kind of prophecy for your family? Whatever the reasons are, if it means a lot to you, then there is a big why that spurred you into action.

Make realistic goals with actionable plans:

If you make realistic goals, you are much more likely to achieve them. Unrealistic goals will get you nowhere but heartbroken and discouraged. So, try to make SMART goals! This stands for making specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based goals. Write down your goals and make sure that they that they are specific to your mission, able to be measured in order to keep track of your progress, ones you can realistically achieve that are also relevant to the big picture, and have a timeline that you need to finish them by.

Stay determined:

Keep your determination high and strong. Besides remembering your why for why you started chasing your dreams in the first place, another method of staying determined is to read motivational material on Facebook, in articles, on Pinterest, and in books and magazines. Constantly fueling your determination, specifically doing so every day, will keep you moving in the right direction. It will also make it easier because it won’t be as much of a drag, or eventually become stale to you over time.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter what:

There will be times that will be tough or discouraging, and in those moments it is important to focus on putting one foot in front of the other. Sometimes you need to reevaluate how you’re doing things and adjust as necessary, but don’t ever give up. Remember why this is important to you and that you are making progress, even when it feels like you aren’t!

Celebrate your wins:

Each and every win along the way to achieving your dreams, is worth celebrating. You have accomplished a lot to get there and that’s what matters! Did you complete a step or challenge in your pursuit of your dreams? Shout it from the mountaintops or give yourself a big pat on the back. You are worth the praise and celebration.

Stay humble:

While you should celebrate every win in the pursuit of your dreams, it’s also important to stay humble. Remember where you started and be compassionate and considerate to others. It’s not in good taste to boast all the time or to be overly proud. Don’t hesitate to share with the world but do so with humility. Your dreams are always important, whether other people also believe in them or not. Put them on your priority list and don’t ever give up! You will get there with time!

Making realistic goals with actionable steps is definitely the hardest one for me. I always seem to want to skip the small stuff and just run that marathon or whatever. Something for me to work on, definitely.

Yes, it is so hard to find a balance and to take it one step at a time sometimes. I have definitely struggled with that in the past. Now I focus more on what I can reasonably do, while still pushing myself out of my comfort zone at the same time.

Awesome post! Completely agree that we should celebrate our wins. I can’t imagine how burnout we’d feel if we never took the time to appreciate our successes and how far we’ve come. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I think if you are self aware, then you will not need to stay motivated.
